The EU Council prolonged by one year, until October 15, 2027, its restrictive measures under Decision (CFSP) 2019/1720 in view of the situation in Nicaragua. The regime, first introduced in October 2019, addresses the ongoing deterioration of human rights, democracy and the rule of law in the country and is reviewed annually by member states. The measures currently apply to 21 persons and 3 entities, all subject to an asset freeze and a prohibition on making funds available to them.
