EU Council Renews Venezuela Sanctions Regime for One Year

The Council of the European Union has decided to renew its restrictive measures against Venezuela for a further 12 months, until May 2027. The sanctions include an embargo on arms and equipment for internal repression, as well as travel bans and asset freezes against 55 listed individuals responsible for human rights violations and undermining democracy. The Council stated the decision was made due to the ongoing political, economic, social, and humanitarian crisis in the country, and reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful, democratic solution.
